Generic enclosure with several circular openings on a workshop bench

This subwoofer box size chart lists targets from exact model manuals. Use nominal diameter to help find a row. Then check the full model code, source revision and volume definition. There is no single box size for every 8, 10, 12 or 15-inch driver.

Choose an exact model and box type. Read whether its target means true net airspace or already includes the driver. Keep the original units and source page with the number. A blank fit field is unknown, not zero. The table is a small document reference; it does not prove retail availability, vehicle fit or a generic replacement driver.

Find your exact model in the box size chart

Filter the table by model text and box type. All rows stay readable with JavaScript off. No match means this small reference lacks that model. It does not mean the driver has no suitable enclosure. Get its own manual rather than copying a nearby row.

The KICKER entries are the 48CWR identifiers covered by the 2021 CompR revision C manual. The JL entry is 12W0v3-4 in its stated manual. The chart does not merge older or newer generations into one family average. Keep the label on the physical driver as the identity check.

Rows separate sealed and ported targets. A sealed range must not be copied into the port calculator as if it were a vented alignment. Likewise, a ported volume without its matching vent row does not describe a complete maker's example.

What net and included-driver mean

The JL manual labels its target as net internal airspace. Add room for the driver and other installed parts when sizing a new cavity. The CompR target already includes woofer displacement. For its vented builds, the manual adds port displacement to that base.

Those volume definitions differ. A figure of 1.750 cubic feet on both rows does not mean equal true net airspace. The KICKER physical driver deduction is unknown in this reference. The chart leaves that field unknown instead of inventing it.

Gross cavity means the empty inside space. No installed parts have been subtracted yet. Outside volume includes the walls too, so it is a different number. The Rockford worked example shows how that maker uses a gross target.

Keep the source's original units in your record. The table converts with 28.316846592 liters per cubic foot. A maker may round the converted display differently. That rounding alone does not show a change in the box design.

Compare the sealed ranges carefully

The chart keeps each CompR sealed range. Its minimum is not a fixed target for every use. Read the full manual for that model's design and construction details. Do not carry the range across to an older or newer generation without checking its own source.

A range does not imply the same behavior at every point. Net volume changes ideal Qtc and Fc. Use Fs, Qts and Vas from the exact driver when exploring that relation in the sealed calculator.

Do not use the chart to infer safe amplifier power or maximum excursion. Those need more data than the volume row. Neither a range nor a computed alignment is a listening-test verdict for your vehicle.

Keep port rows as complete examples

Ported examples couple cavity volume to clear area and length. A source row may give a rectangular opening, while another gives an inside tube diameter. Use the stated layout. Do not convert a rectangular slot to a same-area circle and silently reuse the circle's end correction.

Use the port area guide to check clear section and total area. The port calculator keeps effective length separate from the physical piece. Check the new route before building. Include the space it takes up inside the shell.

The table shows maker vent data as published. It does not claim that a generic equation will repeat every maker's tuning label exactly. Unknown end treatment or construction details remain source limits rather than values filled by guesswork.

Check mounting and vent fit

Read the mounting cutout, frame diameter and mounting depth for the exact row. Nominal diameter is a search aid, not the hole size. Check each against the panel drawing and final wall thickness. Extra front layers change both the cavity and mounting plane.

The motor and port can overlap inside a box even when their openings fit on the front. Draw top and side sections and include the terminal cup and braces. Keep the vent's entrance and exit clear according to its documentation. A table cannot know your final layout.

Vehicle fit also needs the path through the trunk or door opening. A rectangular outside envelope is only one check. The chart makes no vehicle fit or mounting-location promise. Attachment needs the actual vehicle's instructions.

Send a box size chart target to the planner

The calculator link carries the documented target and its source definition. It leaves unknown brace and terminal deductions blank. Check the imported fields before calculating. For a range, choose an endpoint explicitly and keep both source limits in your record.

For a synthetic true-net example, a 1.25-cubic-foot target with 0.050 of driver displacement and 0.040 of other intrusions needs 1.340 cubic feet gross cavity. An included-driver target of 1.25 would use a different ledger. That difference is why the target number and convention must move together.

Continue in the box planner once the target and fit data are clear. Its panel list is a shell worksheet. Check hole locations, internal part envelopes and clearances before using it to build.

Sources and corrections

Source rows follow the KICKER CompR manual, both pages, and JL 12W0v3-4 manual, printed pages 2 and 3. Each row keeps its source page and revision.

The JL worked guide records two source mismatches. One concerns outside sizes; the other concerns ideal Qtc. This chart keeps the maker's targets labelled as published. They are not measured results from this site. Use the correction page to prepare a report if you find a model or revision error.

FAQ

What size box does a 12-inch subwoofer need?

Use the exact model's box document. Twelve inches describes nominal driver size, not an airspace target or mounting hole. Read the target convention and box type before using the volume. This chart deliberately gives separate source rows rather than a diameter-only answer that could imply false fit.

Why does the table show unknown displacement?

The source set does not supply every physical displacement. Unknown stays unknown so the calculation cannot treat a missing deduction as zero. An included-driver target can still help size a shell. Finding true net airspace and tuning needs a complete ledger of the installed parts.

Are the listed models current products?

The table is a manual reference, with no current stock claim. Its model codes and revisions help an owner find the right document. Before buying, check the maker's current US page and full model code. A historical row does not establish that a product is currently sold.

Can I save a filtered table as a new page?

No separate indexed page is created. Filtering changes the view in your browser. You can print the source reference or send a stated target to the calculator. A local saved plan keeps its inputs and source identity without creating a public URL or collecting an email address.

Verdict

Use this subwoofer box size chart to find a stated starting target. Check the exact model and what its volume means. Then check the physical layout. If data is missing, finish the ledger rather than borrow another model's number. Keep those checks with the result in the box planner.
